About Your Backstage Bestie

Hi, Bestie! I'm so glad you're here!

Your Backstage Bestie as a brand has been a long time in the making, and I'm so excited to finally be sharing it with you. When I say brand, what I really mean is a virtual home base for us theatre kids to come together and discuss the most important things in our chosen creative career path. It's a place that's totally without judgement, criticism, or shame for whatever leg of the journey we're on personally, and a place to acknowledge that we're all learning all the time.

If you've looked around the site, you'll find that just about everything I write about is on the topic of finding confidence in the audition room. As we all know, auditioning is one of the biggest parts of being an actor... sometimes it feels like the biggest part, especially if auditioning makes us feel nervous or sick to our stomachs. I want to assure you now that this feeling happens to everyone at some time or another, no matter if this is day one as an actor for you or year 90. Self doubt is human and inevitable... it's just what we choose to do with that self-doubt and how we choose to talk to ourselves that matters.

I've been in theatre for a while now, and I've worked in just about every role you can imagine: actor, stage manager, playwright, teaching artist, front of house, admin, assistant to the executive and artistic directors, casting... From those experiences, and from my own as a performer, I realized that the root of self doubt in the audition room came from the actor's basic lack of trust in themselves.

You'll find many well meaning teaching artists online, self-help books, and in-person workshops that will encourage you to "technique" your way out of your fears, but I believe those techniques are just bandaids and will always fall flat, and you'll end up right back where you started. It's my belief that the best way to overcome audition nerves is to start from within, by building and honing a positive mindset; if you foster a better relationship with yourself, and understand why you keep sabotaging your chances of succeeding by putting negative, false, or outside opinions of your work above your own, you'll find that your mind will be open and willing to create freely and with trust in your own abilities.

My resources will help you do just that. In each ebook, I'll provide you with my proven methods for building that self trust, for laying the foundation of organization and preparation so your mind is free of the clutter that takes you away from your creative work, for effective and professional communication with casting teams, for mindset reframes when your inner critic starts to take over. With easy-to-digest, conversational tips and personal anecdotes, I'll walk you through unconventional practice exercises that will help you get out of your head so you can perform to the best of your abilities.

You don't need to subscribe to a certain acting method, or have trained within a specific school of thought, to benefit from my resources. These ebooks aren't about improving your acting, but about improving your relationship with yourself so you can become the actor that you know you are.

Here I am, onstage, but ever the teacher.
